Un peu sceptique au départ à l'idée de lire un ouvrage sur le féminisme écrit par un homme。 Mais j'ai été assez intriguée pour me lancer et laisser de côté mes a prioris。 Et j'ai bien fait。 Le fait qu'Ivan Jabloka soit entre autre historien offre au livre une objectivité solide。 On constate qu'aucun de ces propos ne sont tenus à la légères， mais qu'ils sont au contraire tous minitieusement illustrés。 Parfois trop à mon goût。 J'ai trouvé que certaines parties， notamment la première des quatre， es Un peu sceptique au départ à l'idée de lire un ouvrage sur le féminisme écrit par un homme。 Mais j'ai été assez intriguée pour me lancer et laisser de côté mes a prioris。 Et j'ai bien fait。 Le fait qu'Ivan Jabloka soit entre autre historien offre au livre une objectivité solide。 On constate qu'aucun de ces propos ne sont tenus à la légères， mais qu'ils sont au contraire tous minitieusement illustrés。 Parfois trop à mon goût。 J'ai trouvé que certaines parties， notamment la première des quatre， est trop conséquente voire imbuvable pour quelques passages。 Je ne faisais pas forcément le lien entre l'exemple et l'illustration。 Malgré cela， j'ai beaucoup appris sur le féminisme。 Puisque ce n'est que le deuxième ouvrage sur le sujet que je lis， j'ai acquis des bases que je n'avais pas。 J'ai été agréablement surprise de constater， ou plutôt de me rappeler， qu'il existe des hommes qui ne cautionnent pas la société patriarcale dans laquelle nous évoluons， et mieux encore， qui sont déterminés à la faire changer。 Sans s'approprier la lutte féministe， mais en apportant un soutien que l'on sait primordiale dans un monde où l'influence et le champ d'action des hommes est encore plus important que celui des femmes。 Je n'ai mis que trois étoiles à ce livre à cause de ses passages parfois indigestes， et de sa longueur。 Je suis de plus en plus adepte des ouvrages percutants。 Même si un essai se doit d'être illustré， je pense qu'il se doit aussi d'être concis pour être mémorable。 。。。more

This review is in English， though the book hasn't been translated to English as far as I know; because the original is in French and I read a Dutch translation， I figured this would be the best way to reach as many people as possible。This is probably the lowest rating I've ever given a book that I completely agree with。 And don't get me wrong; Jablonka has a couple of really good points， on how to be a man in the 21st century。 It boils down to getting rid of the toxic parts of masculinity， and i This review is in English， though the book hasn't been translated to English as far as I know; because the original is in French and I read a Dutch translation， I figured this would be the best way to reach as many people as possible。This is probably the lowest rating I've ever given a book that I completely agree with。 And don't get me wrong; Jablonka has a couple of really good points， on how to be a man in the 21st century。 It boils down to getting rid of the toxic parts of masculinity， and instead display a non-aggressive form of masculinity that does not attack women in any way。 A good 21st century man is a feminist， because feminism doesn't just benefit women， but it benefits men as well; it allows the man to pass on positive masculinity， that allows men to feel things that are not just anger。 A very important message that is important to spread。It's just a bit of a shame that Jablonka takes half the book to get there， as the first half is a very depressing summary of all the ways we have suppressed women in our society。 Which is also important to share， but seriously， it should not take 200 pages， because it's just 200 pages of the same message。 It's only afterwards that it gets really interesting。 （view spoiler）[I'm also a bit disappointed that Jablonka said that all societies have a clear distinction between men and women; he didn't mention the two-spirit culture that was present in northern Native American tribes， and I had a bit of an issue with him mentioning that now we convict rape as much as we can in our culture; ask Brock Turner how much he's been convicted。。。 （hide spoiler）] In addition to that， the Dutch translation is a bit shoddy with one or two sentences being absolutely impossible to follow， and using 'v。o。j。' as a substitute for 'BC'。 （Seriously; it took me ten reads before I understood this was supposed to mean 'voor onze jaartelling'。Nonetheless， this is important stuff， even if the first half is rather dry repitition， and I recommend everyone who's interested in looking up what men can do to help feminism。 。。。more

*4，5。Sterk betoog waar 'we' het nodig over moeten hebben。 Met een gigantische scope loodst Jablonka de lezer langs het patriarchaat， het feminisme om uiteindelijk een nieuw soort mannelijkheid uit een te zetten。 Tijdens het lezen kon ik de discussies in de media al dromen。 Des te belangrijker om hier wel over te praten。 PatriarchaatTe beginnen met de huidige situatie en hoe deze tot stand is gekomen。 Jablonka vermoedt dat het patriarchaat tot stand is gekomen tijdens de agrarische revolutie。 Hij *4，5。Sterk betoog waar 'we' het nodig over moeten hebben。 Met een gigantische scope loodst Jablonka de lezer langs het patriarchaat， het feminisme om uiteindelijk een nieuw soort mannelijkheid uit een te zetten。 Tijdens het lezen kon ik de discussies in de media al dromen。 Des te belangrijker om hier wel over te praten。 PatriarchaatTe beginnen met de huidige situatie en hoe deze tot stand is gekomen。 Jablonka vermoedt dat het patriarchaat tot stand is gekomen tijdens de agrarische revolutie。 Hij draagt daar interessante argumenten voor aan om het mondiale karakter te verklaren。 Hier trok Harari in Sapiens nog zijn handen vanaf， hier geeft het stof tot nadenken。 Let wel dat in dit boek een tijd wordt beschreven van 11，000 BC tot aan het heden waar een hoop geschiedschrijving komt kijken。 Dat is soms taaie kost， daarover later meer。Voor mij persoonlijk werd ik er zelf voornamelijk op gewezen hoe diepgeworteld het patriarchaat nog steeds kan zijn。 Van wetgeving tot religie， politiek， taal， kunst en bewegwijzering （！）。 Ik denk graag dat ik enigszins bewust ben maar werd hier alsnog op nieuwe inzichten gewezen。FeminismeOvergaand op het feminisme wordt beschreven hoe vanaf ongeveer de Verlichting meer ruimte opgeëist werd voor het feminisme。 Daarbij aan toegevoegd welke politieke klimaten het gunstige zijn om ook daadwerkelijk concrete stappen te zetten met die eisen。Wederom interessant door de vele vormen van feminisme die ik tot voorheen als één grote stroming zag。 Veel personen worden hier per naam genoemd om hen te eren voor hun daden。 Volkomen terecht maar komt de leesbaarheid ervan niet ten goede。 Persoonlijk werd ik vrij murw gebeukt door de stroom van opsommingen van namen， ontwikkelingen en politieke veranderingen。 Volkomen begrijpbaar maar daardoor dus wat moeilijker leesbaar。Een nieuwe vorm van mannelijkheidJablonka grote betoog is om over te gaan tot een nieuwe soort mannelijkheid die niet langer leunt op het onderdrukken van andere mensen， om daarmee ook feminist te worden。 Jablonka herinnert de lezers er ook aan dat het patriarchaat ook mannelijke slachtoffers eist voor diegene die niet bijzonder veel nut of noodzaak zien om te veranderen。In het laatste hoofdstuk worden er drie vuistregels opgesteld voor het egalitair behandelen van alle mensen。 Fijn dat buiten het theoretische er ook oog is voor het praktische aspect。Tot slotIn Frankrijk werd het een bestseller， buiten een interview in Trouw heb ik nog niets gezien in de Nederlands media， Zonde！ In ieder geval van harte aangeraden。 Soortgelijke tips voor dit onderwerp zijn welkom trouwens， wellicht loop ik achter， zou ook nog kunnen ;）。Gelezen in een buddy-read met Levie。 。。。more
